At BLOK, we are committed to building a UK manufacturing business and we source exclusively UK components and suppliers. 
 
One of our directors is a third-generation furniture maker whose family has witnessed the decline & fall of the UK furniture manufacturing sector, but who is now at the forefront of a renaissance in UK "micro-manufacturing".
 
The emergence of the internet has created an 'on-demand' culture for 'mass-customisation' that fits the BLOK philosophy of 'slow manufacturing'.
 
Essentially, we design & build a quality product, which can be customised to the specific requirements of the customer. Although we produce standardised designs, we actually build each piece of furniture indivisually to order We do not hold stock, but are still able to turn around an order in four weeks, due to the vertical efficiency of our design & manufacturing facility.
 
Equally, we can operate a pricing policy that can compete with conventional mass-production & retailing models.
 
That is what we mean by 'slow manufacturing' & 'mass customisation'. All the benefits of mass production, but without the inflexibility and multi-layered profit centres of salesmen, wholesalers, retailers and conventional display marketing costs such as brochures & magazine advertising.
